FINAL EXERCISES The finals of XVest Point High School included two occasions-the com- mencement sermon service at the First Baptist Church, on Sunday evening. May 30th, and the graduating exercises in the school auditorium Friday evening, june 4tl1. The Rev. S. ll. Orrell, pastor of the church, delivered the sermon on the subject Lifes Cords and Stakes. The Rev. E. ll. Ilarris and the Rev. A. A. X1cNeer assisted in the service. In the choir were representatives from the town churches, and an especial selection- l,argon by Handel-was sung by the high school choral club. A check to be used for the purchase of a movie camera was presented by the class president, David Ceclro, to Mr. Humphreys, who received this gift tor the school. Shirley Knapp was presented to the audience by Mr. Humphreys as the honor graduate on the basis of her record for scholarship, achievement and loyalty to the highest ideals of the school. Autonina Aczkiewicz received the Chesapeake Corporation Award for her achievement in the fiel dof art. Shirley Knapp and tloyce Roberts were declared to be the honor graduates in scholarship standing. The class of 1948 was presented by Nlr. Humphreys to Superintendent Garber. who delivered the diplomas. The exercises were concluded with the singing ot the School Song. - eil 17 'lie
