MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1954: On Commencement Night you will leave the auditorium, never to return to your Alma Mater as students. You will part, perhaps forever, from close friends Whose companionship you have enjoyed. You can't turn back fnor should you want to 3. you should be eagerly anticipating the next phase of your life. Plan, how- ever, to return for such reunions as were held last year, you will enjoy them. The last diploma to be awarded this year will be the 3944th since the organiza- tion of this institution in 1876, the Centennial Year of our Republic. It will be the 3287th to bear my signature fand the last, for, like you, I am about to leave these old familiar places. Most of you will have spent twelve years here, I shall have spent thirty-one. You will miss the daily associationsg so shall IA-'especially the morning assembly. Why should I feel thus? While the parents of at least eight of you were students, I was helping to plan this school building. It has ever been my aim to have this school stand out as an example of what can be accomplished in a relatively small Districtg to a degree that goal has been achieved, in spite of depression, subsidences, and war. So I terminate my period of service with a measure of satisfaction. In conclusion I want you to know that I shall always cherish my associations with you. In some small way I trust that I may have been helpful to each one of you. And finally, I hope that everyone of you will be successful in whatever field of service you may choose.
