OLDEST LIVING GRADUATE Mrs Gertrude Snyder Coolehan Crandall HONORING THE OLDEST LIVING GRADUATE Upon the 7 51h anmversary of the West Plttston Hxgh School Commence ment It IS fittmg to honor the oldest hvlng graduate Gertrude Snyder Coolehan Crandall of the class of 1881 As thls hlstorlcal event presents ltself 1n her hfe Mrs Crandall who has reslded ln Huntsvllle Dallas and West Plttston Pa and now llves ln Holly wood Callforma recollects wlth much fondness her school days and the pleas ant though hectlc rush of graduatlon tlme Belng the first student who taught school before graduatlon she took her teacher s examlnatlon 1n her elghteenth and mneteenth years and taught two successful summers ln Dallas Townshlp Not only an alumna but also a former member of the faculty of these schools Mrs Crandall wrltes I taught first grade ln the West Plttston schools from 1894 1902 The bulldlng was on the Warren Street slde I came to West Pittston ln 1902 and hved there for 51 years I am now 90 years of age Also of mterest IS the fact that Mrs Crandall s two chlldren as well as herself Were taught by Mlss Rltter m West Plttston Pubhc Schools H3V1Hg a love of people and the beautlful and spmtual ln l1fe she beheves as the Blble says that They who walt upon the Lord shall renew thelr strength they shall mount up wlth wmgs as eagles they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not famt Due to the length of such a trlp Mrs Crandall finds It xmposslble to come to West Plttston on thls happy occaslon but she wlll be wlth us ln spmt and sends along her most slncere wlsh that It Wlll be a great success 4 Q - 1 1 , .
