DEDICATION The Class of 1952 expresses its gratitude to Miss Gertrude O'Neill, a teacher and friend to all in her stay with us. The daughter of a Baptist minister, Miss O'Neill came in 1910 from Ontario, Canada, to West Pittston Schools. Here she taught, first in the third grade and later in the Junior and Senior High Schools In 1929 she became high school librarian holding this position until re tirement in June 1951 A graduate of Walkerton 'Ira1n1ng School Ontario Miss O Neill attended summer ses sions at Grove City College and Columbia Unlversity besides taking Library Science courses at Chicago and Buffalo Universities Since as Emily Dickinson has said There IS no frlgate like a book To bear us lands away we hereby voice our appreciation to one who in guiding our progress through the world of books has given us a greater insight into life itself IY I Illlfil Ir! IIIIIIVJIP 11,1111 Ill I 'Ihe Caravanners also dedicate this book to another who deserves all honor Wltty and wise gay and SGFIOUS Miss Ethel Burrows '1 native of Shamokln taught ln West Pittston Schools for forty four years In 1907 after a year at Bloomsburg State Normal School she began her career in first grade proceeding in 1911 to second grade and in 1926 to the intermediate grades where she eventu illy held the prmcipalship for the seven Miss Burrows concludes an original poem My Dates with the lines I ll always be loyal to these schools But I was glad to say adleu So in 1951 I left at last I think lt was time don t you?
