The members of the band give freely of their time to add zest and finesse to P. T. A., chapel, and other programs. The highlight of their year is the spring con- cert. This year they presented excellent renditions of Tiberious Overture by Herbert Clarke, Peter and the Wolfu by Prokofieff, Pavanne', by Ravel, and ex- cerpts from several Strauss Waltzes in a medley known as The Waltz King . The organization owes much of its success to its director, under whose direction it has given so excellent an account of itself. Although the organization will miss the grand old seniors, there is every as- surance that the graduating members, upon returning some morning to chapel ex- ercises, will find that the band plays on . Tommy Evans led the scoring with two touch- downs. Schoner and Wierbowski scored one each, while Popple came through with three extra points. On our second outing, we were set back by St. Johns in a bitterly fought contest. When the smoke of the battle cleared, we were on the wrong end of a twenty-to-two score. The third game found us once again returning to the win column as we defeated Dallas Township, twenty-to-nothing. Edwards, Evans, and Dovin each reached paydirt, while Phethean converted twice. The next three games found West Pittston on the short end of the scoring. The Wyoming game was a heartbreaking twenty-to-thirteen defeat. De- spite a brilliant ninety-yard touchdown sprint by NIR. Westmoreland edged out a six-to-nothing Victory in a. hard-fought struggle. The Pittston game took place in a steady down- pour. Each team was able to push across only one touchdown. The game ended in a six-to-six deadlock. Although our boys battled strenuously in the final game with Forty-Fort, it ended in a twenty- one-to-nothing defeat. At the conclusion of the season, hard-playing guard Al Gregori was elected captain of the varsity squad.
