. 5 K I5 1975-1976 wisr HIGH scnool ,gfatfe ,.gf-fr-ca.Thfh wywff 2910 No. I9 Av: PHOENIX. ARIZONA 85015 This year's West High yearbook is oriented around the many uses of lockers at our school, the changes brought by the construction on campus, and the progressof the Bicentennial year. Lockers are so much a part of our daily school life that we probably have given them very little thought unless, like this year, we had to give one up and move to another. Because lockers are so important to a school, we have tried to call your attention to the many ways they are used through our cover and division pages. In the beginning the construction looked like a kaleidoscope which turned the quad, the olive tree area and much of the main building into a complete disaster. But as the school year progressed, the pieces began to fit into place and the improvement of West's landmarks could be seen. The Bicentennial Committee used many methods to bring out school spirit and spirit towards our country. To start the year Dr. DeGrow presented the school with a bicentennial flag to salute the 200th birthday ofthe nation. Then there was the Bicentennial Ticket purchased by students at the beginning of the year, which provided them with admission to many activities throughout the two semesters. One of the highlights of the social year was the production of the popular musical comedy, Bye Bye Birdie, which featured students and faculty members making it truly an all-school activity. The days of the cowboys and the old West were saluted during the annual rodeo week -- which featured many lunch-time activities, an assembly and the big western dance -- along with the sawdust and that strange odor that was present on Thursday. Foreign language week was highlighted by several events. The clubs and the language department presented a display of cars from most of the different countries, they sold food native to foreign countries, they dressed in the costumes of the different cultures, and the AFS assembly was presented featuring foreign exchange students. To close this opening message we would present the following words from an unknown author: Recalling days spent together I couIdn't say whether they were right or wrong, only that I remember. Games we played were quite unique. No others have been that deep. Have had no winners, but felt defeat. Paths we walked were never narrow, always wide and room to grow your life and mine. We had it so. Life was loved as we lived. We never questioned what we did, or felt a weight we'd like to rid. Recalling days spent together I couIdn't say whetherthey were right or wrong, only that I remember. 2 INTRODUCTION

Mr. Dye looks on with approval as Carol White and the rest of Pom Pon's do their dance at the Freshman Orientation. I The candidates for Junior class offices listen intently as one of their fellow candidates gives his speech. Freshman Nancy Kelly is one of the many students who line up impatiently, but orderly to get her share of the scrumptious cake and ice cream that was served at the Ice Cream Social. 4 INTRODUCTION
