Yesterday. .. Yesterday we laughed, we cried, we worked, we played, we were molding the rest of our lives. Every- thing we learned and experienced helped to build the steps toward the future. Yesterday may just be a vague memory to some, vivid to others. The past can never be revived, but it is an important element of the future. Yesterday we were young, but we will always be children with much to learn. The yearn for know- ledge should never be lost. All that we have done influences us as the type of people we become. The door stands wide open be- fore us. Yesterday's accomplish- ments will reflect on the decisions made when we cross it. For some it will take time, some will go alone, some in pairs. But one thing we can be sure of, we will all get there. Lithographed by COMMUNITY PRESS Provo, Utah

WEST HIGH SCH00 PHOENIX,ARIZONA Our lives are full of traditions. Beliefs, customs, and information that have influenced our lives since we were very young have been passed on for ages to posterity. Religion, marriage, death, sickness, food, and even school all hold different types of traditions. Everyone of us have become acquainted with some of these for they have a large effect on our everyday lives. As you enter the lobby, a conglomeration of beautiful and bright colors extends a warm welcome. Most of the colors come from the Avenue of Flags. They represent all the foreign exchange students that have come to West High. This program pro- vides an opportunity to bridge the cultural gap and to bring a better understanding among different countries. The knowledge gained through these experiences is something that should be shared with the world. The pride of West High is the pendulum, used to illustrate the earthls rotation. This law of nature was discovered by Leon Foucault, a French physicist, in the 19th century. We are the only high school in the nation to have such a device. The exotic bells hanging next to the windows are the Solari Bells. Donated by the graduating class of 1971, they were created by Paulo Solari and cost 3300. The giant log that sits next to the bells is 949 years old. Each ring stands for a year that it lived. The most important events in the world's history are marked on the specific ring which represents the year in which it happened. The tree was cut down the same year that West High was built, in 1949. ' These are not all the West High's traditions. There are more that can be seen around the campus and there are some that can be felt. Pride and honor for our school cannot be captured in a picture, but they are the basic ideas on which our school is kept alive.
