DR. ROBERT GARD PRINCIPAL In his first year as principal of West, Dr. Robert Gard, met the double challenge of establishing his new adminis- tration and making the new Flexible Scheduling System work. Dr. Gard developed a deep respect for West High tradition and West's strong student organization. Under Dr. Gard's direction, the problems created by Flexible Scheduling were remedied and plans were made to ex- pand and modify the system. He expressed his strong be- lief in the success of the '66-'67 school year in a message to the students: Another year of West High's history has been writ- ten. not in pen and ink only, but also in lives and experi- ences. In ways we sometimes recognize - in others that more subtly dwell in the subconscious - all of us have changed and grown. For many of you, this spring marks the end of your investment of hours and effort in your high school edu- cation: for others, it is a station along the way. For all, the year has been a time of gain -in memories, in knowl- edge, in skills. May this summer and the coming year - and all your coming years - be progressively more pleasant and re- warding. W Dr. Gard has guided West through the many crises which the year presented. His leadership has helped keep - and will continue to keep - West among the leading high schools in the United States.
