THERE'S A RULE ABOUT IT 4:5 fm' K, 3 .13 -.gem H I SENATE FRONT ROW: Willis. Admiral. tChairmcml Solow. SECOND ROW: Lewis. Krikoricm, Dobbins, Pelzer. Not in picture: Carole Frascadore The Senate, legislative power of Western, is composed of one repre- sentative from each group. This term, the foreman of our law-making body is Evelyn Admiral, who conducts the Senate meetings, sets forth new issues, and appoints committees. When the foreman is absent, Gerald Smith, vice-foreman, presides at the Senate. Taking minutes at the round-ups, which are held every third Friday, is the difficult task efficiently being done by the secretary, Carole Frascadore. If a matter requiring arbitration occurs, Dr. Mabel Haller, faculty advisor, is called in as a mediator. The functions of the Senate are manifold, and its powers include appropriating money for C. A. purposes, regulating, governing, approv- ing all by-laws, and granting charters to clubs and other school func- tions. All complaints or suggestions made in the group rooms are brought before the Senate for further discussions and consideration. These issues are discussed, decisions are made, and, when necessary, amendments are added to the school constitution. During the spring season and the Christmas season, the Senate solicits voluntary contributions from the student body. The funds re- ceived are given to organizations such as the Red Cross, Red Feather, and March of Dimes. The Christmas donations are given to children's hospitals and children's organizations. The Senate is divided into fourteen committees Working for the improvement of Western. They are: Activities, Attendance, Boys' Lava- tory, Boys' Lunchroom, Budget, Entertainment, Girls' Lavatory, Girls' Lunchroom, PTC, Safety, Servicemen's, Social Service, Student Council, and Ushers. The Senate of W. P. H. S. is a moving force which exists for the benefit of its student body. Its honesty and intelligence in handling Student affairs have branded it as an indispensable part of Western. gs 0 6. 3 ,I f l , t W Vj ' J 2 it nf xlitfl, 'I It.',, all 1 I ang., X iv?- .. --1-rf .. 59 tg fl, t . SECOND ROW: Hender- son, Seitz, Godfrey, Klein, Naqer, Admiral, Tult. THIRD ROW: Hutton, Gripman, Utain Miller, Deilch, Fastmcm, Clayman. Newberq. Around these here parts the law is divided into many branches, each of which has its specific job. The Senate makes all the laws, which are carried out by the Board of Directors. Patrol posses arrest the outlaws and haul them into court. These law-breakers are dealt with at our lynching parties or Tribunal meetings. There are twenty pardners who serve on the Board of Directors. These are the President and Vice President of the Citizens' Association, Chairman of the Senatey Attorney-General: Chairman of the Tribunal: Chairman of Carroll Phillips: Chairman of Group Aides: Director of Patrolsg and one cowboy and one cowgirl elected from every class in the school. To facilitate its chores, this group of officers is divided into the following committees: Publicity, Entertainment, Election, Social Serv- ice: Membership, Ushers, Color Guard, Boys' Lunchroorn, Boys' Lava- tory: Girls' Lunchroom, Girls' Lavatoryg interscholastic League, and Education of Students. Before it may become official, the Board must pass on any appro- priation of money or law made by the Senate. Also, the Tribunal and Attorney-General Staff are elected by these people. This term these officers were busily engaged in preparing for the production of Go West Young Man. This necessitated the creation of three new committees: the Program, Ticket, and Clerical Staff. The management of the Novelty Shop is another important function of this group. For the convenience of its students, the school sells pencils, book-covers, felt and paper emblems, pennants, stickers, hats, and polo-shirts in Room 2l5A. For keeping our financial records in such perfect order, Miss Betty McGlathery, school treasurer, certainly deserves credit. Dr. Mabel I-Ialler, the capable sponsor of our Citizens' Association, has worked diligently and earnestly at making Western's Citizens' Association as successful as it is.
