John Cardinal O'Hara graciously climaxed a life of compefeni ecclesiasfical adminisfraiion wilh eighi years of vigorous labor in +he Philadelphia Archdiocese. Foremosl among his local accomplishmenis was +he expansion of 'rhe school sys'l'em and The addiiion of special schools for 'rhe blind and crippled. He also insrifufed fhe long-needed Caiholic Charifies Appeal which greally aided +he advancemen+ of various chariiable founda- iions. Cardinal O'Hara won universal acclaim as an educafor and spirilual overseer during his for+y-four years of priesfhood, and was made a Prince o'F 'lhe Church by Pope John XXIH in I958. Alihough in severe pain af +imes during 'I'he lasi' monfhs, 'lhe Cardinal conrinued 'ro func+ion graciously in all +he duiies of his office.
