A graduafe of fhe class of I930 who has risen fo a posifion of eminence in fhe Church's mission fields during fhe pasf year is fhe Mosf Reverend Francis J. McSorley, O.M.l., D.D., and Vicar Aposfolic of Sulu in fhe Philippine lslands. Bishop McSorley is fhe fhird alumnus of Wesf Cafholic who has affained fo fhe fullness of fhe priesfhood. A Missionary Oblafe of Mary lm- maculafe, Bishop McSorley has been laboring in fhe Philippines since his ordinafion fo fhe sacred priesfhood in I939. Undaunfed by fhree years of imprisonmenf by fhe Japanese invaders dur- ing World War ll, he resumed his aposfolic labors affer having been liberafed in l945. In recognifion of his oufsfanding achieve- menfs, fhe lafe Pope Pius Xll appoinfed him Prefecf Aposfolic and lafer Vicar Aposfolic of Sulu. Harf, anofher oufsfanding member of fhe i930 graduafing class, gained nafional prominence during fhe pasf year by becoming fhe firsf Wesi' Cafholic alumnus fo be elecfed fo fhe Unifed Sfafes Senafe. Before affaining fhis vifal posifion, Senafor Harf achieved considerable local fame in his adopfed sfafe of Michigan by holding various public offices. Among fhese were Sfafe Direcfor of fhe Office of Price Sfabili- zafion, U. S. Disfricf Afforney, and Lieufenanf Governor. He is also a disfinguished veferan of World War ll, having been awarded fhe French Croix de Guerre, fhe Purple Hearf, and having risen fo fhe rank of Lieufenanf Colonel. While af Wesf, fhe Senafor was one of fhe mosf acfive mem- bers of his class and is remembered by his classmafes as a real man among men, always willing, always doing . . . undaunfed, successful and admired.
