Lunch time also means Seheel year, having to wait in line before being Students rush enthusiastically in- able to Cat. As one student put it, to the comfort of the air conditioned Who Cares about having to wait in Sghgglbuilding, line, I got my picture taken any- Kids take advantage of the lux- way. 2 Students Hold First Assembly As the year progresses, students assemble in the gym for the first assembly of the school year. Student Council President, Jonas Salinas, Jr., explains the handbook which will guide the students on how to act and what to do during the year. The Band takes the usual honors and plays a few popular tunes. 3 From ld To New Ding, dong, a hell' tolls back and forth. West Oso clings its way from old to new. Boarding buses was part of a daily routine for students last year. Faithful buses which once trans- ferred students from home to school and hack, now rest their dilapidated frames. Students now enjoy walking home. That is, when it doesnlt rain. . 'ii 'If'-IC raawng l l - Z9 mibwfzgwvw- Hot Meals End Picnics Picnics are fun, hut not when they are accompanied by gnats and hot, sticky, or rainy Weather. The students of 68-69 were ex- pected to eat their sack lunches outside Lheir classrooms. Now students are able to eat a good, nourishing hot lunch each day and not worry about Lhe daily fore- cast. 5 l Adjustments Are Brought By Change With every change comes a pe- riod of adjustment, a new establish- ment brings endless change. Students find these changes pleasant and re- warding. No longer must students endure the drudgery of carrying heavy loads of hooks. But then again a student always has to rush for class, when shels late. .WA Principal searches frantically for a custodian over the PA. system. Last year this would have meant painful blisters on his feet when in search of some one. Today with the new intercom, the blisters are trans- ferred to his fingers. - Halls! Halls! Halls! Baffled by the new scenery 'gpeople jams were created in the halls between classes the first day of school. Up one hall, down another, then late for class, What better excuse for being late than telling my teacher, l was stopped for following too close, said a brilliant student when asked how he felt about the hold up in the halls. 7 A New High School A Study In Contrast Once a dream, now a realityn this phrase typifies the thought of just about every student in our high school. To be situated in an old, remote building and then be placed in an ultra-modern plant is an experience that verges on the unreal, yet the marked contrast between the old and the new is significant of this. The marked changes that enveloped every studentls life in his move from an outdated high school to this, is visible. ln the new world of beautiful surroundings and a brand new way of life, we find ourselves encountered with these contrasts everyday. Librarians, Mr. David Martin and Mrs. Becky Quinones, worked endless weeks to put books, magazines, and films back in order. The modern, carpeted library is surrounded by glass windows which give a pleasant View to passing people. lfhere is great contrast between the new and the old library. English, Spanish, whatever the language, one must know how to speak and use it correctly for it to he of any use. Unfair as it may sound, people are judged hy what they say and how they say it. Language is like the attire that we wear, only in this instance it is heard and not seen. It describes our character to others. English and Spanish courses ex- pand our knowledge of the languages while Speech classes perfect our method of expressing lhcm verbally. As the knowledge of science increases, so does the need for men to learn more about it. This is the never ending cycle of science which is similar to the probe in spaceg as we discover new artifacts, the questions always outnumber the answers and the thirst for knowledge remains in our minds. Their efforts didnit go unre- wardcd, though, the newspaper received a new scanning machine which made possible for the first time, the printing of pictures in the newspaper. That same paper staff for rather annual staffj worked diligently to meet deadlines for this book and here, at this very moment, you are reading part olf the end result of those struggles.
