ECUGNITIUN Few of us ever climb the steep stairs to the art room, but not one of us fails to appreciate the quiet strength of Miss Hergt's character. Year after year, she has contributed her time and talent towards making our yearbook a success. Her only reward has been our unspoken but sincere thanks. In years to come we shall remember her, not so much as an art teacher, but rather as a woman whose unfailing generosity and quiet kind- ness have won our admiration. Therefore, it is to Miss Hergt that we dedi- cate our annual this year, hoping that, in this way, we can show our deep appreciation of the debt of gratitude we owe her. 1

TREWORD Halfway up Orange Mountaln stands OUR SCHOOL Somewhat wlthdrawn from the road, It seems to the passerby nelther unusual nor lmposlng True, It has a certaln beauty as It rxses from the mountaln s1dc, the green of the shrubbery softenmg 1ts stern walls as they stand ln sharp contrast agalnst the deep blue of the sky It IS a beauty, however, whose counterpart can be found anywhere else ln our country for ours lS 1 typlcal Amerlcan hlgh school The green of 1ts surroundlng grounds lb marred by numerous brown tracks, s1lent evndence of the hundreds of feet that pass that way each day, m wmter s snows and summers heat The worn surface of the stone steps, too, bears the mark of the cont1nual tread of countless students throughout the years Wlth each passlng season the aspect of OUR SCHOOI varles, pre sentlng to the outslde world an everchanglng panorama of school llfe I1 the d1m l1ght of many an autumn afternoon, mxdst the smell of burnmg leaves, the slopes of the campus are covered wlth slowly movlng crowds The flash of a maroon and whlte unxform, the dylng sound of a school cheer, the blare of a trumpet, the pungent smell of peanuts all are part of our football season Later 1n the year, under the gray skles of w1nter, the students, clutchlng books w1th frozen flngers, come and go more qu1etly Only the occasmonal roar of an antiquated automobnle dlsturbs them as they trudge homeward over the crlsp snow Then, as the 1cy wlnds of wlnter glVL way to warm sprmg days, the campus becomes once agam tht favornte haunt of the students Some Slt nn groups under the trees, talkmg and studymg, others wander aimlessly back and forth, enjoymg the momentary respxte from class If we are to dlscover the heart of OUR SCHOOI however, we cannot afford to lmger here Let us yoln the groups of students movmg slowly towards the school 1n response to the warmng summons of the 8 25 bell As a member of the class of 41 I 1nv1te you to v1s1t OUR SCHOOI, to meet the faculty and students, and to watch our everyday hfe Pxgt 9 .
