West Night High School C1914 to presentI West Night High School Il900-05, 1908-ILI WEST NIGHT I-IISTCRY On its 50th Anniversary West Night stands as Cincinnati's largest night high school. Developing from a school with a rather haphazard program of courses West Night has grown into a school of highest quality The State Superintendent of Instruc- tion recognizes it as a school of the first rank. Its many outstanding sons and daughters are distinguished for their well known contributions to our city, state and country. Not only are its standards of the highest, but its offerings are many and varied. Commercial and academic programs are full and well balanced. In addition art, music, speech, journalism, clothing courses and shop courses are designed to round out the students' education and to meet individual interests. As for location, West Night High School first occupied the old First Intenmediate School Building, Baymiller Street, in the West End where Dyer School is now situated. In 1905, it was temporarily housed in the old Hughes High School Build- ing on West Fifth Street, and upon the completion of Dyer School in 1908, it was returned to its original location. For six years it remained there and finally was transferred to its present home, the new Hughes Building in Clifton Heights.A.bronze tablet, presented by the class of 1914, com emorates this event. h., ,H - f WEST NIGHT HIGH SIIHIIIIL ' IJINIIIIIIIATI, IIHIU 2

froalfion ' A A MW ne change concerns the increase in UDB ime requirements. The parents of our resent high school generation may have eceived a unit of credit for 64 house n class as compared with our present 20 hours. This increase in time, how- ver, does not necessarily imply a pro- ortionate increase in the difficulty of he work done. More difficult courses ere taken in the past than at the pre- ent. In fairness it should be said, V owever, that the modern tendency is to ard the practical side, particularly hose subjects that have an apparent and mmediate application. 'Every able-bodied and mentally alert erson owes it to himself and his fa dly o get a high school education. The tyening high schools make this possible 'or all who will give extra effort.'
