Concert Band Marching overlays, hats, plumes, and gloves are set aside now - trophies and awards are in their places. And so begins the transformation from the sounds of the Marching Band to the more refined tones of the Symphony Band, and new Challenges. New music to read and learn that covers a wide range of musical styles and themes. A musical is coming up - My Fair Ladyg contest is approaching fast. Of all the numbers worked on this year, four remain uppermost in our mindsg Bellerophon, the DiSUFiCI B'2 required Dumberg the , the two selected numbers: and Chant and Jubilo, the state required number. West received the only l rating in the county at district contest and went on to receive a II at state contest in Columbus. Shortly after contest, the band had the pleasure of presenting an assembly for the entire student body. The year finished with a 30 minute T.V. Program and the annual Pops Concert, This year's concert theme was Time-out - the students take over. The John Philip Sousa Award winner was Ted Denman. The student conductors and art exhibit proved talents that will keep West the best!

VEST V297 MMM sd h ,. Marching Band After a week 's vacation in June, the 1968-69 West Muskingum Band hit the road to success, Practicing twice a week, the band marched to victory in the many parades and festivals held during the summer months. In July, West was invited to compete in the American Legion Convention Parade in Columbus and took fourth place in the two and one half mile procession. As a result, West will participate in the 1969, 4th of July ceremonies in Columbusg and as guests of the American Legion will go to Cleveland for the State Convention and 50th Anniversary celebrations and contests on Iuly 18 and 19th, 1969. In August, the band went to camp to work toward a successful football seasong and successful it was - September - the trip to the Marietta Band-o-Rama proved rewarding as a dress rehearsal for the Zanesville Bonanza of Bands, Out of the 10 bands entered in Class A, West came home with the third place trophy, Marching season rounded out with the trips to Dennison University, Baldwin-Wallace College and the Parade of Champions in Cambridge,
