Second Row- Dresden's two - time state Class A basketball champions took it on the chin for the second straight nightSaturday and for the third time this year as West Xluskingum's host Tornadoes scored a 69- 55 victory over the Jayhawks, The game, which the experts looked upon as a preview of New Concord sectional tournament play since both teams will be playing there, say the Tornadoes hurtle into a 25-1-1 first period leadfrom which the Jayhawks could not recover, Last night, Tim XlcDaniel led the winning attack with 25 points to boost his 13-game total to 212. McDaniel also sparked the Tornadoes in re- bounding as the winners gained their 10th win in 113 starts. Dresden, which absorbed its third loss in 12 starts, felloff the pace even more in the sec- ond quarter and trailed by 15 points at halftime, 38-23, llowever, led by John Creech who finished the game 70 Asst. Coach Chuck llryant, with 23 points, the Jayhawks gained some ground in the third quarter and cut the mar- gin by three points as the Tornadoes held a51-3Olead at the end of the period. West Muskingum, however, outscored the invaders in the last quarter 18-16 forthe 1-1 point margin of victory. Xlike Martin and Dick Lougliman were important cogs in the victory as each con- tributed 16 points. Both teams used only five players in the contest. West Muskingum made three more field goals than did the visitors and dunked 15 out of 22 free throws while Dresden made only seven of 14 from the charity line. The Victory Cheer, natu- rally the most popular of all cheers, was heard quite fre- quently this year. This was due to an outstanding team and an equally outstanding squad of cheerleaders. Colleen Bankes Head Cheerleader Seemingless endless hours of practice, many clever skits for the benefit of the team and students at the Pep Meetings, small signs of encouragement by the thousands, and long journeys into parts unknown, just to be with the team are many traits which lend them- selves. We Janie! .glam ,gn 55-52 Wu West Muskingum with- stood a determined fourth quarter rally by Rosecrans Saturday night and tripped the Bishops 55-52 before a standing room only crowd in the Tornado gym. West Muskingum, win- ning its l4th game in 18 starts, led 44-37 after three periods of play, but the Bishops charged back to tie the score at 48-all on a long fielder , by Dan Wilson with three minutes to play. But the Tornadoes were not to be denied as they scored seven straight points to wrap up the victory. Wilson got the final Rosecrans points on a last second shot from 70 feet away, The Tornadoes buried the Bishops 17-8 in the opening period, but Rose- crans came back to narrow the gap to eight points, 29-21, at the half. The Bishops gained a little more ground in the third stanza. West Muskingum led by as many as ll points midway through the third period. The Bishops were never in front. The Bishops finished their season with a 12-6 record, the school's worst in six years. Tim McDaniel was the big gun for the Tornadoes as he connected on lO ofl5 field shots and netted a total of 22 points. Mike Martin and Chris Woods added ll each for West Muskingum. The Tornadoes hit a solid 48 percent from the field and added five of ll from the foul line. The Bishops hit 41 per cent from the field and six of 10 free throws.
