I coach sandy newgarde's field hockey team proved victorious as they brought home the first girls' iac championship. the girls ended their season with a record of 8 wins, 2 losses, and 4 ties. after a heartbreaking loss to rox- bury in the opening game, the girls won three in a row before a loss to far hills. as the sea- son progressed, they found themselves with a chance at the championship. so, the hallo- ween re-match with roxbury was extremely important. the girls won 1-0, with the support of their new mascot, the beloved sacrificial pumpkin . mendham won the final game of the season with par hills. the honors were then shared by mendham and par hills for the iac championship 1973. junior cy-cy esler was high scorer for the team with a total of 13 goals. although the team loses five starting seniors: lynn esler, debbie pickel, nancy going, wendy cole, and kerrie lindberg, they again look forward to a championship season for 1974. senior halfbaok dobbie pickol. nancy and lynn's sacrifioal pumpkin 4 ,E ,..,.fS2s'+f -A f ,L -fx: mendham movu to dofoat roxbury.
