As one of the Romance Languages, it is based on Latin, but the French have a unique pronunciation and a combination of vowel sounds that are consistent but difficult to the 'foreign' ear. Mrs. Catherine Hodges Latin is called the basic language. lt is ever present through the existence of Romance Languages.
