The students chosen are considered oufstandino in the areas of athletics, citizenship, personality, scholarship, and school spirit. They were not selected on the basis of one area of student life, however, but upon all areas - scholarship, participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, and promise of future usefulness. After a 28-0 loss to Northwood on September 3 in the season opener, it looked as if it would be a long season for the Warriors. However, Coach James Garmon molded the inexperienced players into a cohesive unit which returned the following week to defeat Rohanen, 21-15. The next week West scored 62 twice in the first quarter to hand Ellerbe a 14-0 defeat. The Warriors then traveled to Siler City on September 24 with hopes of upsetting the number one team in the state. Unfortunately, the Warriors were hurt by injuries to key players in the early minutes of the game and suffered a 37-0 defeat. Returning home on October 1, West turned back a strong Gibsonville team, 19-6, to give the Warriors another happy homecoming. The Warriors then traveled to Chatham Central and thrashed the Bears, 27-O. The following week West dropped a thriller to North Moore as the Mustangs scored with ten seconds left in the game for a 20-13 Mustang victory. The Warriors invaded South Stanly on October 22 and spoiled the Rebels' homecoming with a 13-6 victory, thus extending West's consecutive homecoming victories to four years in a row . On their home field again, the Warriors slipped past Union Pines, 7-0. West ended the successful season with a 14-0 victory over cross-county rival, East Montgomery, on November 5. ,Q an W P5 w 1 :,t,.f 'Q , ' V .' -W ffm. , ,.of,4! J v .5-ra, , ' 'Z 1-, TZ f. Well, lt is a type of Thank you page, and we wlll thank many people - the people who have made our book what It Is. We thank you, the students of West. Wlthout you, there would be no school, no need for a yearbook. We have trled to glve you something that wlll say, This Is me - I am. We could not give you this book without the help and cooperation of many people. Hunter Publlshlng Com- pany people lnclude Ed Goldston, who drew up our contract, and Bob Chappell, who spent many days completing our layout. Our book ls printed through the offset flat screened process by Hunter Publlshlng Company, Wlnston-Salem, North Carollna. The paper stock ls Dull Enamel. The four-color photographs are done by HP25 process. Base materlal for the cover ls Riverside Chambray RVC 3751 wlth a base color of purple and cover welght ls 120 pt. A flat-stamped design is on the cover and backbone. Pages are 8 V2 x 11 Inches and the print Is Helvetica wlth black Ink color. The book contalns 216 pages and the press run was 570 coples. Mr. James H. Donnell, Jr., the admlnistratlon, and faculty Iespeclally Mr. Mlles Phllbeck, Mrs. Mary Harper, and Mlss Paula Crookl contrlbuted to the annual. They gave thelr tlme, thelr Ideas, and most generously of all, they gave thelr patlence. We had diverse contributions from other sources. One of the most obvlous and most appreciated Is that ot the local merchants and businessmen who supported the flnanclal burden. Merchants In both the eastern and western parts of Montgomery, Stanly, Anson, and Richmond Counties gave thelr money and support generously. The Worth Frankllns of Troy let us borrow thelr house for the Homecoming Court plcture, and we want them to know that we appreciated It very much. We would also llke to acknowledge the quote on page one, from the song Share the Land by Burton Cum- mlngs of the Guess Who. Llnda Hallyburton, Angle Haywood, Connle Frlx, Lana Floyd, and Pam Story of Mlss Ellen SkInner's office practlce class helped the staff ln a most unlque way. They spent long hours typlng and retyplng the wrltten materlal for the WARRIOR. Our photography credits are extensive. Blll Janlerl of Troy dld all the pictures for our four color pages, and dld much of the black-and-whlte photography. He gave hls tlme generously and ls responsible for the hlgh-quallty photography In our book. Danny Coggin of Troy and Debbie Russell of Salem Academy spent much time and effort on several sections of the annual. Jim Sheets of Greensboro, Thomas Conway and Edward Harper of Troy are to be credlted for many of our pictures. We want to glve our most slncere thanks to our advlser, Mrs. Hilda Cotton. She may be the only adviser In the state who can neither crop a picture nor count and measure headlines, but lf she hadn't been here, there wouldn't have been an annual, and we wlsh to thank her for her guldance and help. To the real creators and bralnstormers of the WARRIOR, to Chuck and Steve and Gary and Edward and Johnny and Ina May and Frances and Cathy and Patrlcla and Jan and Betsy and Andell and Sue and Cynthia and Julle and Marva, we can only say - Thank youl Klp and Chris
