HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL To You, the Members of the Class of 1958: Today we are entering a new age - The Space Age. Since the United States is apparently behind in the race of space, our system of education has been the subiect of much criticism. Upon you falls the responsibility of proving or disproving this criticism. You are about to leave the portals of the public schools and enter the world of competition. You will find this competition much more competitive than any you have thus far encountered in life. Your success or failure will be one of the yardsticks used to measure the strengths and weaknesses of our American system of Education. We feel that you have acquired the fundamentals necessary to successfully compete with others in this new world. lt will be up to each of you as individuals to prove yourselves in life. Your success will come only through perseverance, work, and patience. Our trust is placed in you. We hope you will not disprove our trust in you. Frank Meredith Mr. Frank Meredith

SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL TO THE CLASS OF 1958: You are on the threshold of a new era, an era which will be identified with atomic power, man-made satellites and, conceivably, inter-planetary communication. The scientific advancement of the next cen- tury will well surpass the achievements of all preceeding ages. Even at this point of progress, science has discovered forces of energy capable of eliminating life from the face of the earth. At the some time, these newly discovered forces are potentially man's greatest ally in his struggle against disease, hard- ship and poverty. Upon you and succeeding generations throughout the world rests the great responsibility of directing and utilizing the newly discovered forces of nature for the good of mankind. Consequently, you will play a significant role in the phenomenal scientific era of your time. How you fulfill your destiny depends largely upon your respect for your fellowmen, your appreciation for your heritage and the guidance and leadership you accept. lf you will remember always to respect the rights of others: to give each man his due and to consider his welfare as you would your own, if you will cultivate an appreciation of your precious heritage: your freedom, your moral and spiritual enlightenment, the achievements in science - and strive to preserve and advance your heritage, if.you will seek Divine Guidance and place faith and trust in Him, you will fulfill your manifest destiny and iustify the confidence that is reposed in you.
