To the Class of 1954: By sheer virtue of the many exposures and experiences to which you have been sub- jected within these walls--whether pleasantly or unpleasantly, willingly or unwillingly, in- tensely or superficially--you must necessarily and inevitably take with you lessons or axioms of conduct which will fashion and mold the remainder of your lrres. In varying de- grees, individually you have learned to think, to work, to play, and to serve. These are truly important lessons which, if adequately applied, will contribute immeasurably to your success and ultimately to your happiness. However, there is still another lesson you have acquired, regardless of how unwittingly. which will determine your worth and your success more than any other single factor. It is the sense of values you have here developed. What you value- morally, materially, and so- ciallyfis of prime importance to you and to society. Wlhat you consider worthy of thought, what you 1'egard as deserving of your efforts, what activities lend satisfaction to your leisure, and what causes you choose to serve will in a large measure reflect the influence of your school aml its effectiveness in developing desirable citizens. In these trying times, as well as in the brighter years which nmst surely lie ahead. may you continually elevate your intellectual pursuits and strive for goals worthy of your ex- panding horizon. In your leisure, may you find satisfaction in the things that contribute most to your advancement: and may you choose to serve only those causes which best exem- plify the nobility of man.
