In varying de- grees, individually you have learned to think, to work, to play, and to serve. These are truly important lessons which, if adequately applied, will contribute immeasurably to your success and ultimately to your happiness. However, there is still another lesson you have acquired, regardless of how unwittingly. which will determine your worth and your success more than any other single factor. It is the sense of values you have here developed. What you value- morally, materially, and so- ciallyfis of prime importance to you and to society. Wlhat you consider worthy of thought, what you 1'egard as deserving of your efforts, what activities lend satisfaction to your leisure, and what causes you choose to serve will in a large measure reflect the influence of your school aml its effectiveness in developing desirable citizens. In these trying times, as well as in the brighter years which nmst surely lie ahead. may you continually elevate your intellectual pursuits and strive for goals worthy of your ex- panding horizon. In your leisure, may you find satisfaction in the things that contribute most to your advancement: and may you choose to serve only those causes which best exem- plify the nobility of man. Thus will you drink deeply of the cup of life and justify the noblest efforts of your Alma Mater. NIR. I,l l'IIl'1R LOXY Sl'Pl'1It VISING PR lNl'Il',vXI, A.B.-Washington 8a Jefferson M. THE BOARD OF EDVCATION SALIYTES YOU, THE CLASS OF 1954 This school district has provided to the best of its ability a building of brick and stone and furnished it with suitable equipment. You have provided the enthusiasm, ability, hard work, and achievement that turn that building into a school that is now your Alma Mater. You are important people! Now you are about to leave the protection of that building to enter a freer life, and to take an active part in the building of that better world for which free men and women are constantly striving. You have been dreaming of new and unlimited opportunities. Now they are yours to undertake. Always remember you are an important individual. America permits you to choose your, job. Choose wisely and work hardg the rewards are great. f. Madeline Bridges said it well: For Life is the mirror of king and slave, ,Tis just what we are and dog Then give to the world the best you have And the best will come back to you. i' John C. I'nder the direction of our class advisor, Mr. Edward Bryant, we soon became accustomed to the life of high school freshman. Our members represented our class in various school activities. Our class officers were: President, Beverly Mclillhaney Vice-president, Harold Reichard Secretary, Sallie Hoffman Treasurer, Bill Lansdowne PART II fsophiesj After a hectic first year, now we were sea- soned and confident as we began our sopho- lnore year. Again we were fortunate to have Mr. Bryant as our class advisor. Ive sponsored a freshman-sophomore wiencr roast and everyone enjoyed themselves. VVe began our fund-raising activities by holding bake sales and sponsoring dances. Our most successful dance was a St. Patriek's Day dance. Barbara Goodall and Sallie Hoffman were cheerleaders. Sallie was also an attendant to the Homecoming Queen, Barbara McCracken. John Jones, Charles Ruffo, and Bill Lans- downe played on the basketball team and Ron- nie Gaines was manager. Jones and Lans- downe were also on the baseball team. Uur class officers were: President, Bill Lansdowne Vice-president, Ronnie Gaines Secretary, Shirley Barlett Treasurer, John Jones PART III fjuniorsj Here we began another big year in which everybody worked hard to make it a success. Our class advisor was Miss Elizabeth Mitchel- trce, whose knowledge and guidance proved in- valuable to us. Ive sponsored a Junior-Senior wiener roast which although interrupted by rain, was fine anyway. fifteen Our chief ambition to finance and promote a banquet and prom in honor of the departing seniors, was finally realized after a strenuous year. VVe sold candy, stationery, magazines, Christmas cards and decorations, held bake sales, and sponsored dances for the high school. Beverly MeElhaney was our prom chairman. Sallie Hoffman and Barbara Goodall were cheerleaders and Sallie and Beverly' 'were also attendants to' the Homecoming Queen, Janice Lee Bartholomew. VVe had John Jones, Charles Ruffo, Dan McQuiston, and Bill Lans- downe representing us on the basketball team. Jones and Lansdowne also played on the base- ball team. . Our class officers were: President, Bill Dansdowne Vice-president, John Jones Secretary, Sallie Hoffman Treasurer, David Reynolds PART IV fseniorslj How quickly the time has passed! YVe have come together for our last year of high school and our class advisor has been Miss Mar- garet Cunningham. Ive eagerly awaited for four years for our trip to Vvashington, D. C. Ive helped to fi- nance the excursion by holding a dance, bake sale, and selling bracelets, pennants, cosmetics, greeting cards, and shirts. VVe also presented two plays. Beverly Mclfllhaney was our Homecoming Queen. Her Senior Attendants were Sallie Hoffman and Barbara VValdorf. Sallie Hoffman and Barbara Goodall were, cheerleaders and John Jones, Charles Ruffo, Dan McQuiston, and Bill Lansdowne were on the basketball team. John Jones and Bill Lans- downe were also on the baseball team. On May 25, 195-11, our class history ended, when 32 of us walked down the aisle, up on the stage and shook hands with Mr. Low as we re- ceived our diplomas at Commencement. VVe said good-bye to our classmates and teachers, our school days left behind and started out in the world to wend our way . 141 lnk ll I'lll'l'IIl Vnurw Pr l IMA. PROPHECY SENIOR CLASS PROPHECYU Many strange things happen in many strange ways, but a hand seemed to guide me down a certain street of New York, and into the small, dismal, gloomy shop of Rosalie, the fortune teller. As I entered her shop, I hung my coat on the large bulky rack and sat down before a table which was centered with a large glassy looking crystal ball. As I crossed her palm with silver, she told me, not only of my future but to my surprise, all the future of my old class- mates of 54 , and they were told to me as follows: Shirley Barlett, has become director of the Youngstown business school and is now typing 120 words a minute. Shirley Collins, a well-known missionary has finally arrived in Africa, where she will try to educate the people of the Jungle. Peggy Cornman is still looking for a good steady job as a private secretary. The boss must be tall, blond, and young. Come in and try the new Isalys' special ice cream made by the new owner of Isalys, Shir- ley Cox. Nancy Fox has become a famous dancer and will entertain the Armed forces in France, where her husband Ernest Taylor is stationed. As Rosalie looked deeper into the crystal ball, she smiled, for in the birth announcements, she read: A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Yarlet of VVest Middlesex. Mrs. Yarlet is the former Donna Gill. Next we moved across the country to Flor- ida, and there we found a professional water skier, Barbara Goodall, whose teacher was Thomas Preston. Next I saw the headlines of a sports page which read Lixlee Hoagland, star pitcher for the Queens of Arizona . Sallie Hoffman, a famous Parisian designer of ladies gowns, is now designing a gown for the new first lady to wear to the Inaugural Ball. An Art exhibition is being held at Carnegie twenty-seve I Museum where-Beverly Mc-Elhaney's portraits are being shown. i Jo Ann Powell is successful at her two jobs as Secretary at the Westinghouse and as housewife. Sherry Powell has become a well known en- tertainer of the Pennsylvania Floor Show Company. Her director is Harry Snyder. Betty Sharer has become a well-known vet- erinarian, and she has started her own Animal Hospitaln. Mrs. IlVilliam Spangler fformer Eleanor Steingralziej has just been awarded the honor of being the best housewife in Pennsylvania. ' Lois Stewart, famous airline hostess, won recognition for saving the lives of nine people, who were in a plane crash, traveling from the linited States to Mars. ' VVilda Thompson, violinist, will make her debut at Carnegie Hall August 20. Q f Nurse finally receives her cap! Miss Bar- bara VValdorf, after several years of hard work, is now R. A display of modern art will be presented by Esther We1'eb in New York City. Critics consider her the best artist in our country. After years of working toward his goal, Frank Draskovic has become owner of the Plymouth garage, but he's still driving his Cadillac. Ronald Gaines, noted scientist, has just found a new way to sleep comfortably on rocks. He says that its softer than a Sealy. Frank Gorichky now owner of his owry re- pair shop, says its the cheapest way to straighten out the fenders in his Plymouth. Robert Gurtner, fastest hotrod driver of this century, won the 100 lap race at the In- dianapolis speedway. John Jones, a well-known comedian, will ap- pear as star of the Comedy Hour. He will be assisted by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. VVe now see Bill Lansdowne, driving through Wlnshington, D.C. in his big black Cadillac. The play was under the direc- tion of Miss lilizabeth Mitcheltree, assisted by student directors Peggy Cornman and llarbara Goodall. The story begins . . . lVhen Bob tried the sawing a woman in half magic trick on the high school princi- pal's daughter. 111' DIDNVI' YVURK. He didn't really hurtfher, but at the rise of the curtain l3ob's already in plenty of trouble. llc can,t convince his girl that he took up magic only when she started tlu'owing him over for a college man and he had to show her how polished and suave he could be. Now he's practically suspected of attempted homi- cide! Meanwhile, the formal coat Bob bor- rowed from her to wear during the magic show gets torn'-f and it comes out she got it from her fatherfthe principle! To hide the dam- age, Bob ducks it in the laundry bag, not ll'l'l' realizing that the bag contains curtains which are to be dyed bright yellow. By the time he finds the real fate of the laundry bag, it is too late. and the outraged principal has discovered everything! Bob's worried family decides to entertain the l'.T.A. ladies in hope that they may intercede for him. But before Bob can prove how misunderstood he is, his innocent- looking kid brother has set up a series ot' home- made booby-traps fmade out of such reliable items as red pepper, electric fans, and hot padsj and the I'.'l'.A. ladies walk right into them. They KNOW' it's all liob's fault. Fran- tically angry. they want to denounce him to the authorities, but it isn't necessary. the authorities, through a misunderstanding are already out after Bob! I must be living under a curse!', cries Bob.. but he's wrong. Events take a sudden and delightful turn, and Bob is on top of the w'orld. This is a .joyous and zestful comedy of youth. SENIOR PLAY The ltlaxwell family has always been an average, down to earth family. No airs, no pretentions, just ordinary people like their neighbors. In fact, that's the life for Papa, Mama, thirteen year old VVilbur, and seven- teen year old Connie. But it's different with fifteen year old Betty Lou. She,s always loved big affairs, important people, and has long aspired to be a debutante. So, she made friends with ultra -ultra Suzanne Coday, daughter of THE V. Hamilton Coday, one of the city's really important men. Suzanne asks Betty Lou to go to the mountains with her for the summer and after much pleading and wail- ing, the parents finally give in. VVhen Betty Lou returns home weeks later, she's a much changed young lady. She not only brings back a very different Betty Lou, but a big idea of Mr. Coday's --- he'll make Papa Maxwell a state representative. Mr. foday tells Mr. Maxwell that he can put him in office just like that - that it,s money in the bank . . . honey in the hive. Mr. Maxwell immediately visions himself the future president of the lfnited States. He starts campaigning like mad and the whole family's hobnobbing with the town's elite, much to the chagrin of son IVilbur who,s irked by baths, manners, combs, and Arthur -the Coday's young son. The Maxwells don't have time for their neighbors anymore, they're too busy. Finally comes the last scene of act two and the big election. The whole family is sitting around the radio, listening to the elec- tion returns. It finally dawns on them that Papa has lost the election. The Todays then disown them, and Mr, Maxwell, friendless and humiliated, informs the family they're moving to another town. The neighbors start return- ing their borrowed goods, and it's then that the Maxwells realize that the real honey in every- one's hive is friends just like these.
