Our hard-working librarian was born in Seattle, Washington. At the University of Washington, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and at Columbia University, her Masters degree. She has been a high school teacher and a social worker in Washington State. Later she became a Travelers Aid worker in Chicago, Counselor for Women in the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Educational Advisor in the Troop Information and Education Department of the Army in Hawaii and Japan. She earned the honor of being chosen to attend the American Academy in Rome. She has also attended Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles. Before joining us at West, she was a librarian at Morningside High, San Die-quito High, Walton Junior High, the Pasadena City Library and the Los Angeles Public Library. In her lifetime, Mrs. Isom has traveled around the world two times. She has met such prominent people as Mrs. Roosevelt, General Douglas McArthur, and Dr. Lushey, Chinese Ambassador. As the founding mother of West, she has worked hard to live up to the motto ’’West is Best”, and we all hope she will continue her fine work for years to come. 46
