fr Q ,- MK J MPt sound mind in asound body was the guiding philosophy of West Mesa s Physical Education Department A com plete and enjoyable physical fitness pro gram helped students gain good health However these courses offered not only training in a varlety of sports and other recreation but also study and mforma tion on health topics. A credit in P.E. was required for Freshmen and Sophomores. Juniors and Seniors P.E.' were not required to take it. It was an elective for them. In boys, P.E. there were team and individual sports. With an interest in improving their physical abilities, boys took P.E. II. which also included units in sports and health. Action in Girls' PE courses came from gymanstics, volleyball archery and other forms of recre- ation. All Sophomores were re- quired to take PE and Freshmen also had to make a credit in this department. It was also offered as an elective to seniors and juniors. Miss Barbara Butler was a new full-time teacher, teaching Fresh- men.
