This year West Mesa had a large art department but it still couldnt keep up with the enthusiastic demand for art courses. In addition to the regular art forms for first to fourth year students, some teachers emphasized the making of such things as pinatas and ojos. The unique part of all was to have Crafts HI and IV participants do their own thing, especially make their own silver and tur- quoise jewelry. All equip- ment was on hand but sup- plies were short at times Students used these skills and created many beauti- ful objects such as rings, bracelets, and chokers. ' i A Vo1cationqlEducation i 'C Trade Courses Give Specific Training Mr..Bob Mr Jose Rivera Mr. Ray Singer Mr Craig Mr. David Richardson Spreacker Yellott Vocational Education offered a variety of courses for those in- terested in working with their hands and minds. Classes available in- cluded basic electricity, welding, metals, drafting, woods and health carrers, all full year courses. The basics of each field were taught and after mastering these, the students began making and fixing things themselves. The skills acquired were immediately applicable to the world outside of school.
