any schools in the U S teach Justpla1nEngl1sh At WMthe English Department strives to teach much much more to the stu dents Of course the basics are still taught College Grammar IS a course that teaches just the basics but many of the other courses try to reach be yond that and show that English means not only prepositional phrases but also the thoughts in the author s mind as he is writing a book or how an unage IS created through the use of words There weren t many changes in the Engllsh Department this year A half a dozen new teachers Joined the staff and two new classes Chicano Lit. and Bible Lit. were added. Junior and Senior Humanities were limited to only one period, and the credit earned could be for either Eng- lish or history. Creative writing classes again pub- lished the Prism with the help of Mrs. Jane Hipsher, one of the new teachers, and Speech II and III classes enjoyed the novelty of independent study. On the whole, it was felt that the Read- ing Lab was one of the more successful aspects of the department. fl- 1l..'.igii 'HQ' 1 , ii . echanics of expression is emphasized MYSA Elaine Alaflcl Ml Bill AYW5 Mr. -lake Beidler Mrs. Nicki Bertenshaw Mrs. JoAnn Coffee Mrs. Jeanette Civerolo Mrs Bonnie Geer 42 Academics
