Cross Countr The cross-country team started off the year by beat- ing Valley in a dual meet. Throughout the year, the team had a very good season winning seven regular meets against Valley, Del Norte, Rio Grande, Albu- querque High, St. Puis, Highland and El Dorado, and losing only once to Del Norte by one point. The g'1'0UP also attended three invitationals and host- ed the Third Annual West Mesa Invitational. They took second place in the Gallup Invitational, fourth place in the El Dorado Invitational, second place in the Los Alamos, and third in the West Mesa meet. The team gained three trophies in these invitationals. West Mesa also hosted the district 1AAAA champion- ships this year. Mustangs took second place in the district losing to Santa Fe by one point and earning the right to run at the State Meet in Roswell for the third year in a row. At state, the Mustangs took sixth place in the AAAA Meet. Senior Ronnie Maestas took fourth place with a time of fourteen minutes and fifty-three seconds, 'less than five minutes per mile over the three mile C0lll'S6. The B-Team captured first place in district with Bob Francisco taking first place. 1. Anthony Garcia and Sam Nelson are nose-to-nose at the half-way point in the district meet. 2. The varsity team does its last minute psyche-up on' the starting line before the district meet. 3. Top Mustang runner, Ronnie Maestas, receives the District IAAAA second place trophy from Coach Louis Yannoni. West Mesa lost the meet. 4, Standing are Coach Louis Yannoni, Dennis Valdez, Sam Nelson, Daniel Herrera, Louie Montoya, Ronnie Maestas, Mark Nelson, Ector Manriquez, Pat Herrera, and assistant coach Jerry Snider.
