Leading the marching band at games and in parades are drum majors Eric Johnson and Larry Garcia. Carla Drace, Nina Jordon, and Connie Drace marched and twirled at many school and sports events. Six band members make New Mexico all-state band West Mesa's Marching Band was led by drum majors Eric Johnson and Larry Garcia. They were elected last year from a field of ten by appointed members of the band. Drum majors led the marching band and taught the members all the ele- ments involved in marching. Twirlers performed during half-time at football games and marched with the band in parades. Band members tried out for All-State Band during December. Six students from West Mesa won places in this band made up of musicians from all high schools in this state. Free time is spent making arrangements for coming events in Mr. Clrristian's office by All-State Band members Debbie Hernandez, Mike Gaddis, Nina Jordon, Ann Baltz, Gail Olson, and Jay Mayer. 226 Organizations

Checking on the bands annual money-making noliday fruitcake sale are the second period officers Anita Sandoval, treasurerg Debbie Hemandez, vice-presi- dent, Eddie Herrera, presidentg and Gail Olson, secretary. Proceeds helped subsidize band expenses. Officers help lead band and co-ordinate all activities Not minding the attention he receives while trying to work in the office is Victor Holguin, student council representative for fourth period band. Other officers include Pat Chavez, president, Lorraine Perea, vice-presidentg Lori Nestor, secretaryg and Cathy Heskette, treasurer. Officers for this year played a bigger part in organizing the band than ever before. They co-ordinated money- making projects, such as the fruit cake sale and helped sponsorymany outside school activities. Officers were elected for each separate band and then they met together after school. They decorated the band room for the Christmas holidays and organ- ized two parties for band members. Group performs in man concerts, two pla in local outh symphon The Orchestra musicians took part in numerous activities throughout the school year. In addition to its annual Christmas Concert and other regular concerts, the orchestra has preformed in the District Seven Music Festival together with other schools.
