The Albuquerque Board of Education has several responsibilities, but per- haps its main one is to 'represent the community in setting educational policies that appear to be the best for all concerned. Mr. Robert Evans has guided the school during its five years of exis- tence. This year's enrollment at one time reached 3,000 students making West Mesa the largest high school in New Mexico. The freshmen class is the largest with about 900 students, sophomores are next with 800, juniors have about 700, and seniors are last with approximately 600. Mr. John Barefoot, assistant princi- pal, heard many different complaints and excuses during the year, as he was responsible for all buildings and grounds and all non-professional workers, as well as student attendance. Mr. Joe Griego, assistant principal, was in charge of all disciplinary mat- ters. Mrs. Mildred Faris, assistant princi- pal, directed all professional personnel and was in charge of curriculum.
