Stage Band I, which met before school each day, was started at the begin- ning of the year. Among its activities were the annual West Mesa Stage- Band Festival, pep assemblies, and a television program in January. Stage Band II was organized at the end of first semester and participated in festivals and concerts. 224 Organizations

Making up part of the fourth period woodwind section are ftopj Dean Mann- ing, James Taylor, Clinton VanBibber, Richard Dailey, Jackie Baca, Antoin- ette Baldonado, Pam Wilson, Gary Wo- od, Tim Baca, LeeAnn Dahlkoetter, Connie Drace, Kathy Trujillo, Debria Price, and Joan Pulakos. 146 musicians comprise two bands Marching at football games, perform- ing in concerts, making one hundred foot spirit banners, and playing in pep assemblies was only part of being od had a membership of sixty-live. The bands combined for marching at games and played as two separate bands in concerts. a band member. Studies in the bands were aimed at individual improvement and group co-ordination and control. Eighty-one students participated in second period band while fourth peri- Mike Ramirez, Ron Bennett, Forest McDonald, Mike Baca, Howard Beal, Doug Lawrence, and Eddie Carr drummers, warm up for rehearsal at the beginning of fourth period. Checking on the bands annual money-making noliday fruitcake sale are the second period officers Anita Sandoval, treasurerg Debbie Hemandez, vice-presi- dent, Eddie Herrera, presidentg and Gail Olson, secretary. Proceeds helped subsidize band expenses. Officers help lead band and co-ordinate all activities Not minding the attention he receives while trying to work in the office is Victor Holguin, student council representative for fourth period band. Other officers include Pat Chavez, president, Lorraine Perea, vice-presidentg Lori Nestor, secretaryg and Cathy Heskette, treasurer. Officers for this year played a bigger part in organizing the band than ever before. They co-ordinated money- making projects, such as the fruit cake sale and helped sponsorymany outside school activities. Officers were elected for each separate band and then they met together after school. They decorated the band room for the Christmas holidays and organ- ized two parties for band members.
