ROTC cadets are Martinez, Castanuela Perez Torres .laramillo Fausett Parra Smart Garcia Nieto Nickels and Herrera NJ ROTC activated during formal ceremonies in Nov NJ ROTC was offically activated Nov. 19 at ceremonies attended by military and educational officials, faculty, parents, and students. Although the program started at WM just this year the boys have al- ready accomplished a great deal. Donating 5600 to the Kidney Foun- dation, S300 to the Hearing and Speech Center and also helping in the Toys for Tots drive were some functions ofthe group. The purpose of NJ ROTC is to prepare cadets for military duty while teaching citizenship and leadership. Senior Neddy Garcia, batallion commander, presents a,S6Q0 check for the Kidney Foun- dation to Mrs. Rosemary Bigham. Raising this money was the first project of the year. 214 Organizations

Membership in the organization consisted of delegates and their alternates chosen to attend Boys and Girls State conventions during the summer.. To be eligible, students submitted a letter stating why they thought they should be chosen. Then they were interviewed by a faculty committee Grade point average, leadership and activities in and out of school were also considered.
