September, as usual, was a month of adjustment, especially for freshmen. It was also the month of the first foot- ball game of the season played against Del Norte. School pictures were taken in color this year. Freshmen-senior week had its fun and disaster. To end the week a roller skating party was held, which partly made up for the pain the freshmen went through. The first Student Council meeting was held. Freshmen officers were elected and the queen candiates were presented to the senior class. Glenn Garvin and Cindy Westmore- land were announced as National Merit semi-finalists. A highlight of the month was a half day off from school to attend the State Fair. September enrollment up to 3000 Due to the change of location of the attendance office and changes in policies, perhaps not only the sign painter, but also school personnel, were confused this fall. Marching along in the New Mexico State Fair parade are West Mesa band members. Pom Pon girls along with the cheerleaders participated, also.
