A STORY IN FIVE CHAPTERS EDITED BY JACK DRYE MANAGED BY GEORGE SLEDGE FOR THE STUDENTS OF WEST MECKLENBURG CHARLOTTE, N. C AS TOLD There are always times in a student ' s high school career when he feels that his efforts are of no particular value or consequence. This is far from the truth. Your contributions, large or small, are interwoven with those of your classmates to form the pattern of life which is, in essence, the spirit of West Mecklenburg High School. Our school is neither more nor less than the sum total of its parts. West Meck- lenburg High School is what it is because of you, the individual student. There- fore, it is in tribute to YOU that we dedicate this, the 1959 edition of the Tomahawk. Overseeing the operation of West Mecklenburg are these three untiring advisers. Students associate the faces of Mrs. Faye Keistler, Secretary; Mr. T. C. Wright, Principal; and Mrs. Jo Foster, Assistant Principal, with unselfish work. Meeting to decide our do ' s and don ' t ' s these four men compose the West Meck- lenburg School Board. They are Mr. B. L. Thomas, Mr. T. C. Wright, Mr. J. P. Wilson, and Mr. L. F. Camp, Chairman. SAFETY PROGRAM The West Mecklenburg Seniors show their concern for safety through the activities of the Safety Club. These activities reach into many phases of our school and community life, as the club strives to promote a keen awareness of safety throughout the student body, in school and out. Although the competitive aspect of Safety Club work is no longer present, the seniors this year put forth redoubled efforts and interest in projects and in safety supervision and leadership. Projects involving driver alertness during the holiday season and student responsibility during evacuation of the school building during drills were successfully carried out. The last months of school usually bring added efforts toward the end result of a safety-minded citizenry throughout the year. At West this program is under the direction of Mr. John P. Coulter, Jr. who does an outstanding job and keeps SAFETY ever present in our minds.
