E ORnPEWwW.O RD We, the Senior Class of 1953, having completed twelve years of work, mixed with a dash of fun and a pinch of relaxation, humbly feel that we are only a little nearer the goals for which we are striving. We face the future with courage and determination, holding high our hopes and aims—to live a better life and to create a better world. As we have grown older, we have begun to realize that what we are today has been the work of our teachers and parents. To these faithful advisers, who have helped to mold our lives, we extend our loving and heartfelt gratitude. We give you this, The 1953 ‘Tomanawk, as a small token of our appreciation of all the things “West High” has meant to us.

Always smiling, yet serious at the proper times, this beloved math teacher and athletic coach of West Mecklenburg has captured the hearts of us all. So, to you, Mr. James BarnweE t, for your understanding and sympathy, for your readiness to help us in anything we undertake to do, we, the Seniors of West Mecklenburg High School, take pride in dedicating the 1953 ‘TOMAHAWK.
