Yes The Pioneers had performed their duties graciously nd energetlcally thereby making people regard this youthful institution as a future scholastlc adversary for the established schools 111 the v1c1n1ty AS SOPHOMORES September 9 1936 beheld the same group returnmg with a great deal of slaps on the back and hand shakmg They were no longer the only class in the school but were accompanled by the Freshmen to whom they had to show courtesy and fine example The class was divided 1nto three sectlons 10A supervlsed bv Mr John Syzdek 10B supervised by Mr George Rosser 10C supervised by Mr Miles McDonald the fourth section v.as dlssolved within the others The new subjects aroused rnterest and the gymnasium auditorium belng constructed held everyone s attention in eager antlclpatlon In the meantlme a Student Council for partlcxpatlon in school government was estab llshed to work wlth the Pr1nc1pal and faculty for the general betterment of the school An Honor Roll was established thereby exciting competltlon among lndxvldual students and raising the schools scholastic standard An unofficial school paper the Echo was pubhshed the editor ln chief belng Chester Kevlock Supplies were requlsltxoned from the office No charge was made for CODICS The Sophomores under the supervision of Mr John Syzdek were active in thlS Journallstic attempt and supported It lndustriously As the year advanced the gym was completed and classes were begun during the second semester The new health program offered under the add1t1onal f3.1Cl11t16S took first rank 1n student popularlty Nature loving students saw the unkept rugged condltlons of the campus and co operated with the School Grounds Comm1ttee Thls Committee sponsored several social affairs to ralse funds Among them were an amateur prgram in Wh1Ch Theresa Marone was awarded first prlze and the first School Dance heltl June 10 1937 The followlng day June 11 was epoch making day It was the First Annual Patrons Day Parents and friends were really astonlshed at the numerous displays and actxvxtles The Pioneers class of 39 had been subjected to public lnspection Popular reception given this class and the school almost reached the proport1ons of an ovatlon The school year was termlnated by a picnic at Lakewood Park where studles 1nd books were forgotten during the gala time given strictly co soclal act1v1t1es Our entire faculty attended festivities AS JUNIORS September 20 1937 the class returned to the now famxliar bulldmg for another year the most strenuous year ln which they had thus far participated A close election deter mlned the followmg class oflicers President Frank Bauser Vxce Presldent Frank Sullivan Treasurer James Sampsel and Secretary Elizabeth Lewls This year several important additions were made to the faculty a commerclal currlculum was lntroduced lI1t0 the chool piogram Miss A1lC13 Domson served as commerclal teacher An outstanding event of this year was the orgamzmg of a basketball team coached by Mr George Rosser For weeks the slogan was Beat Arlstes our first opponent On Thzrty 1 1 1 1 ' ' 1 1 ' 1 . . . . .
