Tunnell Superintendent Another school year has come to a close and as in the past, each Student Body looks back upon its past accomplishments with a great deal of satisfac- tion. The 1957-1958 West Linn High School student body is also reviewing, with pride, the school year just completed. The faculty and the administration most sincerely appreciate the cooperation and progress in education which you have all helped to make possible. We again wish our seniors who are leaving for additional education, work in the business field or military service, a great deal of success. We know that you have received an excellent foundation for whatever tasks now face you, and we sincerely hope that you will take with you many happy memories of your years with us at West Linn High School. ' We will be looking forward to another successful year, when our freshmen, sophomores and juniors return in the fall. It is our hope that you will continue the high standards and traditions which have been maintained at West Linn Mrs. Newton through the years. Mr. Chester L. Tunnell, Superintendent M .mf pawns ata Mr Charles P. Zacur Principal What can be said to a group of teen-agers who have shown appreciation, cooperation, and the spirit you have displayed this past year? It has been most gratifying to work with a group of young people who have assumed their responsibility of becoming young men and women. May you continue to grow in this same dependable way as you go about in your daily living. My heartfelt thanks to each of you for your contribution to West Linn High School. Your sense of fair play, your understanding of the many problems and your keen cooperation has made West Linn a better school because you are a part of it. The honors acclaimed this past year reflect your untiring and unselfish spirit which is cherished by the administration, the faculty and the people of the Mrs. Mc Clarty Mrs. Betts community. 'i Wx Special c l 0 -'T ' ' Y Education .' s E l U . ' 3 ' qv, Mrs. Rue Mxs.Gay Special Education The special education department is an auxiliary service in all schools in West Linn. Its purpose is to assist in identification, diagnosis of difficulties, evaluation of ability, placement in classes or for individ ual help, and to aid teachers with children of special ability or specific problems. Its success depends on teamwork, so many conferences and home contacts are planned that the staff may make use of other agencies serving the child, such as Child Guidance Clinic, new in Clackamas County, Crippled Children's Division at the U. of O. Medical School, Fairview Diagnostic Clinic, plus services already offered by the County Health Office and the State Department of Education and our own high school guidance personnel. Students with reading difficulty are aided in the English department, others with behavioural prob- lems or emotional upset's are counseled directly in the high school counselors program and at times are interviewed in special education by Mrs. Charman at the request of the principal or parents. Miracles do not occur, but surprising results of beneficial nature for the student often evolve from this teamwork approach in our schools.
