Oct. 51 — Students sponsored old-fashioned 1 ' 37 Hallowe ' en party with witches, black cats, pumpkins, and cornstocks just as in the t;ot)d old days . Nov. ]U — Westeo Liberteo students won the National hp h school airplane race. Nov. 27 — The h fi school students invited the entire town to |iartake of caviar, pate-de- toi-gras, etc., with them in celebration of Thanksgiving. Dec. 2 — Easy chairs, soda fountains, escalators, and a new 4fi ' ' 2 story library were given to the high school by the Board of Education as a surprise C hristmas present. The library was so dry that a swimming pool was constructed in the basement. Dec. 31 — (Irandpa Old ' ear ' died and baby New Year was born. Is he cute?! |an. 1 — Everyone stayed in bed with a he.ulache as a result ot last night ' s merry-making. )an. 13 — Students went on a sit down strike because of mid-year e.xams; finally the students stood up — sitting was too hard. Jan 17 — The new high school radio, which is ec]uipped with television, was installed and the students listened to President Huckleberry expound a new theory on The Proper Way to Make Love and How to be Beautiful . Feb. 12 — Boys came to school dressed like Abe Lincoln and wore a week ' s growth of beard; the girls wore old -fashioned clothes. Feb. 14 — Seniors gave each teacher a fi e pound box of candy — all were heart-shaped. They hoped that the teachers would gi e them good grades. Feb. 22 — The boys played a trick on the girls and gave a Cieorge Washington tea for their benefit. Mar. 6 — Six thousand books — all lo e stories — bought for the library. Mar. 21 — Senior class of l ' H7 had a reunion. The married men brought their wives and the married women brought their husbands in tow; bachelors with their pipes and old-maids with their cats. April 1 — April Fool! Teachers stayed home today to fool the students. April 6 — Rolls Royce was donated by .Mr. Fenry Hortl to the high school to take the place of the school busses. May 23 — [uniors and Seniors hail a swimming party in the swimming pool in the base- ment of the new library — a raft made the bant)uet table. May 24 — . nnual picnic helil at Oglebay Park. This is an old custom still observeil. May 2 5 — Checks were given to the graduating class in place of diplomas as checks would be of more akie to them. 39
