W L H SHOOTING STARS The operetta, Shootlnj; Stars, was presenteel May IH, in tile College aiKiitoriuin, under the threetit)n of Miss Miklretl Pioggess. The cast was picked Ironi the boys ' and girls ' choruses. The operetta opened with the celebration of the Fiftieth Anniverasary Sale of Frazier ' s Five and Ten Cent Store, which is thrown into confusion by the mysterious dis- appearance ol various articles which have been specially advertised for the sale. Mr. Frazier, on the advice ol his daughter, Shirley, tlecides to hire a detective to track down the thieves. Shirley arranges matters so that the iletective is none other than Hill Maxlield, a likeable young man who has incurred Frazier ' s animosity through his tendency for prac- tical joking. In essaying the role of the detective in disguise. Bill gets into one scrape after anc ther. Finally, just when it ap|ie.irs that there is no way out of his difficulties, a lazy porter, a bear-trap, and ,in import.int l.ttle man with a megaphone bring about a happy solution to his troubles. JUNIOR BROADCAST OF 1937 Music! Dancing! Singing! Drama! (and incidentally a duck) made up the amateur program which the lunior Class sponsoretl. It was the first amateur |irogram ever held by West Liberty high school. The program opened with a peppy song and tap dance by Louise Everhart. The high school orchestra presented several numbers. One feature was C ' harles ' illiams as (Md McDougal dressed in overalls, straw hat, and carry- ing a duck. A western pantoiiiine hich had a hero, a heroine, a big, bad villian, anil excitement, was presented by the public speaking class. Cieorge CJrounds, seventh grader, played a guitar solo, and Doris Duvall and Anna Mae Armstrong seventh grailers, sang a duet titled When I ' m With You . Other ama- teurs pretormed and went through with Hying colors . The program closed with a drill by three boys and six girls. Isabell Schuetz, Elmer Davis, Ray Silver, Clai ' ence Gruse. The lunior-Senior play, The Cireen (ihost , a mystery comedy in three acts, was presented under the direction of W. D. Ward, April 27, in the College auditorium. Well plottetl, and suavely characterized, switt-moving, tense, exciting, and plentilully supplied with comic reliet, it carried the audience along right to the ingenious denouement. The characters in the play were as follows: Ah Lee — a Chinese butler..- Clarence Gruse Dora Van West — an ex-show-girl Dorothy Danford Reggie Van West-her cousin. Raymond SiKer Mrs. Parker — another cousin Vida Mae Smith Janice Parker — her young daughter Louise Everhart Carol Parker — Janice ' s sister Isabell Schuetz Caroline Van West — head of the family Dorothy Drummond Magnolia — her maid Sara Lou Grewell Dr. Barr — her physician Elmer Davis Eric Van West — her nephew.— Clarence Wolfe Lieutenant Craig — of the police Walter Milligan Detective-Sergeant Fitz — his assistant Tom Bowman Every character is under suspicion until the very end when due to the efforts of the two detectives, the real thief is apprehended, even though Aunt Caroline makes trouble for them throughout the entire play.
