DAVID KOVAL, M.A. Physics, Science, math, Science Club Science The science departmentis major aims are to teach each person to become a better consumer and citizen and also to stimulate an interest in the sciences. Some courses are designed to help stu- dents prepare for college. This department went on numerous field trips. In the fall and spring there were organized camping trips. Students, before going are required to have a research topic and experiments to do. Some of the topics are geology, fossils, plant distribution, the mapping ofa lake and its depths and the mapping ofa gorge dug out by the Illinois River. These trips are usually from 3 to 5 days. Back at school, they categorize their information and put it into a report. These students work independently and accomplish much. On the average, about 20 students go on these trips. Other trips open to the whole department and with no pre-requisites are to the dis- trict and state fairs and to museums. STEPHEN KYRIAS, M.S. CHRM., Biology, Science 12 R. D. JOHNSON, B.A. Cen. Included in the new curriculum will be: Probability and Statistics, 'sSelected Advanced Topics in Mathe- maticsf, and an experimental course in transforma- tional geometry. These courses are designed for those students in higher math. The Wang computer is being used a great deal by the math and science departments. The computer is used mainly by the compro class, a one semester course in computer programming. There will be more one semester courses added next year which will meet the one year math requirement for graduation. Skills classes use a math laboratory approach. Hope- fully, this increases the interest of these students and their knowledge ofthe fundementals of mathematics. RITA WILSON, M,S. GHMN, Algebra I, Algebra IS. DOROTHY. MISZKOWICZ: M,A.
