They won a consolation trophy in the llins- dale South Christmas Tourney, which very few VW-st Leyden freshmen teams have done. The leading scorers were joe Zelas- ko, Len Culino. and Doug Mermuys, This years lfreshrnen 'B' team was not as successful was hoped. They did. however, gain more experience in the funda- mentals of the game, Dave Coffman was the teamls captain. Dave and lim Auchincloss were the most valuable players. Other players who received recognition were Tony Coco. lim Peterson. and .Xl Bruzzini. Promising Team The 1971-T2 Sophomore Basketball team was held in high re- gard by Coach Phil W'addell, who stated, This yearis team is probably one ofthe best ever at Leyden and should provide sever- al varsity prospects, The teamis captains were Nlike White and Larry Zerante. They were also chosen as the most valuable play- ers. Larry Olsen was voted most inspirational. Toni Wrona and lid Litwin also had good performances. As treshnien, it was said that they could help win a championship.
