Chess Club The chess team, a recently organized group, sponsored by Mr. Swetin, got off to a big start this year. Going to Alton, Ill., one of the most important tournaments, the Fresh-Soph team finished first in state competition and Varsity finished 10th out of 27 schools. mane-'f .:.. ,A,,iA,1 . Q ,.. . wa This year, Sylvia Leta is the popular AFS foreign exchange student. She Came from Uruguay and now lives with Mr. and Mrs. Lisk. Lee Lisk is Sylvia's American companion and Hbig sisteru. One of Sylvials favorite hobbies is the guitar. She plays well and enjoys it. This is the first year that Sylvia ever witnessed a snowfall. She says it is the most beautiful thing she has ever seen. Sylvia is a girl who likes everyone and vice versa. She always drinks fresh grapefruit juice or milk and lemon juice. to remind her of home. Sylvia also loves animals. Very often you will find her playing with the family dog, Chi-Chi, or writing a long letter home to her folks.

Members of the Mental Health Organization wrapping Christmas presents for the pa- tients at Chicago State Hospital. 119 The purpose of the Mental Health Organiza- tion is to help students understand the problems of others and help them find out if they are inter- ested in this field for a career. In October, the members went on a field trip to Elgin State Hos- pital. They also sponsored a clothing drive at Thanksgiving for the Elgin State Hospital.
