M. is to pro- vide all types of audio visual materials to supplement students' research and a quiet study area for their use. For the first time, librarians and the A.V. director are on many of the major teaching teams. The goal that they hope for, through these changes, is that advanced planning will allow them to serve the students' needs better. Teacher awareness of new material will help them plan better in the future. According to department chairman, Mr. james Ra- cich, the main objective of the Special Education De- IAMES D. Curriculum changes are being made in several areas, such as a pre-vocational workshop and home economics complex. These new courses are to stimu- late actual work experience and to develop good atti- tudes and habits that can be transferred to a real work situation. Further plans are also being made for a shel- tered workshop in room 072. This will be an actual production line and help the students develop abilities and interests that they could use in a factory setting. -:- . Q. fi In Memoriam Earlier this year, Mr. Nick Bronge, a member of West Leyden's faculty for ten years, died. Mr. Bronge, who was born and raised in Melrose Park, felt especially close to the students and faculty here at Leyden. He came to West Leyden as an English teacher, two years ago shifted to the special education department and only this year was appointed its chairman. In addition to working with young people in class, Mr. Bronge was head varsity baseball coach and assistant football coach. As chairman of the special education depart- ment, he was responsible for starting a program that would better equip the students for a normal life. A friend of the underdog , Mr. Bronge tried to do as much as he could to help people who were not as for- tunate as others. The loss of this fine man was felt deeply by everyone. V ,V eq i
