Modern Books Social Studies Seminar's main purpose is to explore the vast field of social studies and to promote a better understanding of the contemporary as well as historical problems of the world. Their main activities for the year were going to see Cone With the Wind and a two day trip to Nauvoo, Illinois, an old Mormon settlement. The purpose of Modern Books Discussion Club is to read and discuss modern and significant books not covered in regular English classes. Mr. Tweed sponsors the club. Mental Health Organization M.H.O. is a club organized to help students under- stand the lives of the mentally handicapped. Visits are made monthly to the Illinois State Hospital. Goncerz. The biggest project of the year is the Christmas project at which all patients are given gifts. All money earned through the sale of candy is given to some institution to aid the mentally handicapped. Science Club ABOVE: Science Club members experiment with chemicals for pro- ject report. RIGHT: Lynn Aldinger practices cooking for field trip. Anytime during the year, one could find Science Club members down in Room 152 of the physics wing. Quite surprisingly, much of their time is spent in the pursuit of knowledge. They work on individual pro- jects and plan the annual week-long field trip.
