C ASSHIST R THLETIC ab1l1ty muslcal talent, and buddxng 1n1t1at1ve these three qualltles were hldden behxnd faces beammg w1th m1SChl9f, whlch entered West Lampeter m 1943 West Lampeter was new to us as well as to the superv1s1ng prmclpal, Mr Adams Together we started the chmb for success W1th many new 3Ct1V1tleS occupy1ng our t1me we were soon through Iumor Hlgh School However durmg thls t1me we reallzed the cost of a war and dxd our part by collectlng paper and buymg war bonds In the fall of 1945 we entered the Freshman class look1ng eagerly ahead toward greater responsr bll1t16S The class elected offxcers who lmmedlately assumed thelr dutles Preparatlon for the faxr soon began Hotdogs wlth catsup and mustard enabled us to have a profltable class stand at the Commumty Fan' We also won the scholastlc contest for the th1rd year IH success1on whlch permanently entltled the cup to our class We were the largest class 1n school wlth a total en rollment of 72 Returmng 1n the fall as Sophomores we were pr1v1leged to have the 1ce cream stand at the fan' The proflt from our sales was an lmportant step toward a semor trlp Those offlcers elected were Presldent Harold Werner Vlce Presldent Arlene Barley Secretary june Hous er Treasurer Shlrley LeFevre Hlstorlan Arlene McK1nney Due to the size of our class we agam had the audltorlum as our homeroom It had been pamted which greatly lmproved the general appearance of the school Aprll and May seemed to be long months but fmally summer vacatlon came Well here we were back xn school agam Iunlorsl We lmmedlately elected offxcers Presl dent Harold Werner V1ce Presldent Arlene Barley, Secretary, Joanne Brubaker, Treasurer Shlrley LeFevre Hlstorlan June Houser Durmg the early part of the year the mam attractlons presentatlon of the comedy, Mlss Ilmmy hlghllghted our jumor year and brought us many compllments In the sprmg our class assembled to choose class Jewelry Our dads had to dlg a llttle deeper 1n thelr pockets, but we all managed to be wearlng a class nng or pm Our social gathermgs w1th the class of 1948 were chmaxed by the Iumor Semor Receptlon As a remem brance to the school our class along w1th the class of 1948 gave money to be used for the purchase of stage curta1hs It wasn t so d1ff1Cl11t to return to school 1n the fall of 1948 As forty n1ners we looked for ward to occupymg the Semor homeroom and the cholce seats mn the audltorlum Thls year we welcomed by several new teachers and our hlgh school prmclpal, Mr Snyder Mlss Straley and Mr Snyder were appolnted our class advlsors Wlth the aid of our class offlcers Presldent, Harold Werner VICE Presxdent, Robert Sultzbach, Secretary, Joanne Brubaker Treasurer, Shlrley LeFevre, H1stor1an, Arlene McK1nney our class whole heartedly took over the respon S1b11lf16S of the year Our home economlcs teacher helped us to conduct a profitable falr restaurant Rehearsals for the Semor play were scheduled ln October and November The suc cessful presentatlon of the comedy, Ghost of a Chance dlsplayed dramat1c abilxty as well as the cooperatxve attltude of the forty nmers After assemblmg all the materxal necessary for our yearbook, we sent 1t to press the fxrst week 1n February Boys as well as g1r1s washed d1shes and walted on tables at the annual semor supper And then for the bxg tlme at New York wxth Mxss Straley and Mr Snyder as chaperones,I m sure we couldn t have had a more wonderful txme Sxght seemg eatmg out and staymg up late wxll all go down nn the memolrs of our Semor tnp Wlth solemn faces we marched up the alsle, attzred nn caps and gowns Baccalaureate ser vlce had been held and now lt was Commencement night Those mischievous looks were gone and 1n thexr place was found a look of smcere determxnation to make the best of our future l1fe To you, We La H1, we extend a deep sense of gratitude for the qualities which you have mstilled U1 our lives 31 . . , . . . . . .
