CKULZ55 Adforg Four years have passed since we entered West Lampeter High School as Freshmen: years long to be remembered by all, years nlled with joys and sorrows, laughter and tears, and work and play, all dear as well as profitable to our memory. In September of 1939, we who were to be known as the Class of 1943, gathered to- gether for the first time as high school students. But the Freshman Year was not nearly as unpleasant as we had anticipated it would be. Before many days passed, friendships that would be broken and renewed were started. Robert Kreider resumed the duties of Presi- dent. The one outstanding event was a Hallowe'en party held at the old Hans Herr House. In the autumn of 1940 we again met, this time as Sophomores, and we felt just a little more at ease. All our teachers were back and most of our class. This year we elected as President David Huber, who still holds that office. We were also proud to have sev- eral boys from our class on the varsity basketball team that won the County Championship that year. The next year it was hard to believe that we were really juniors and that it was a time to settle down to some serious work in preparing for our future. We realized that All that glitters is not gold, and that being a Junior is anything but play, We presented a comedy called Yours Truly, Willie, which was quite a success. Miss Hess left us this year for the career of marriage, and Miss Wells took her place in the task of teaching English. Our science teacher, Mr. Stradtman, also vacated his position to Mr. Weil. The last September we came to school with one thought-Graduation. A few of our members fell along the wayside, but we still have a large number left. We lost two of our highly esteemed teachers to Uncle Samis Armed ServicesfMr. Bishop to the Navy and Miss Passmore to the W.A.A.C.'S. Our 1943 social life was brief. The rationing of gasoline and tires, the ban on pleasure driving and conservation of fuel canceled the Senior Prom one day before it was scheduled, All sports events were also called off. However at the beginning of the year during the fair we had charge of a little restaurant!-Vit-M-Inn. Now in our last few weeks at school we look back on the four years, the studies and activities that will be a foundation for our future work. We will always remember the time spent at high school. We say not that our Class is the best that has ever passed out of W. L. H. S. nor that there will not be better classes in the future. We have aspired only to be an improvement over classes of the past, and we feel we have partly succeeded. The four years have passed quickly, but we have received the training here that will enable us to face the world and help win the peace. Our Class is the first for a long time to leave school to serve an America at war. Many of our members will be in the armed forces before the summer ends. We realize that we may never be together again in one group, but the memories of West Lampeter High School will linger forever. LEOTTA KLAUS, Claw Historian of 1943. l14l
