he West Goes Bicentennial All through this school year West has had the American spirit which founded our na- tion. On November 17th, West was officially recognized by the Taylor Bicentennial Com- mission as a participating Bicentennial school . West was one of the first schools in the nation to receive this special kind of recognition. Included in the ceremony was the officialraising of the Betsy Ross flag and the Bicentennial flag. A sign-placque was also set up on the school grounds. The student Council Bicentennial Com- mittee worked with Mr. Killingbeck to or- ganize and carry out a continuous program involving the student body and faculty. Dur- ing the school year some twenty-three pro- jects involving the Bicentennial were com- pleted. The most ambitious of the projects was the placement of a new flag pole as a lasting memorial to America's Bicentennial. llllisill -av' 4.15K T' ll .J Upper Left: Mr. Killingbeck accepts let- ter of approval declaring West as an of- ficial Bicentennial School, the first in Taylor, from Willard Koths.
