West Excels In Forensics 1976 was definitely one of the best years that the West forensic program has ever had. Under the coaching of Mrs. Hopkins they com- peted in the state junior high for- ensics contest at the University of Michigan and brought back sev- eral trophies, medals and certifi- cates. There was also a school contest and a spring junior high tourna- ment in which this group competed. Also, they told children's stories for various elementary schools in Taylor. This group works and has fun at the same time, and enriches every part of this school. After all, if you can't communicate with other peo- ple, what's the point of existing at all? That's what forensics is all about, human communication, and West is definitely best! 1. Carolyn Click, Mark Cuddy, and Chris Rutledge rehearse a multiple reading. 2. Marge Grozanick, Cheryl Dawson discuss a reading, a common practice by this class. 3. The coach , Mrs. Hopkins, hard at work again! Theater Experiences At West The drama club had another very successful year, perhaps the best year it's ever had. To their success were two plays, Meet Me In St. Louis and a muscial entitled Rock 'n Roll . West's fall play, Meet Me ln St. Louis , directed by Mrs. Hopkins, was a complete sell out on both nights of its presentation. This three act situa- tion comedy took place in 1908, and showed the frantic hay-wire that can happen in the everyday hilari- ous family. The spring play, Rock 'n Roll , a nostalgic '5O's musical, was also a success, directed by Mrs. Hop- kins, Mrs. Taft and Mrs. Freeman. The play was about a dreamy, high school romance. Besides putting on the plays, the club saw various drama programs and certainly made their eslxtence worthwhile. I 1. In West's Meet Me ln St. Louis , Lori Bruner as Rose and Mark Fellows as John unfold their love letters. 2. The smash of the show, Tootie , portrayed by Robbie Byrd. 3. V'- gli The Chess Club -fi ,ffm l, Mr. Scott Adivsor The Chess Club under the direction of Mr. Scott, has had a very good year. Throughout the year they went to several tournaments and placed well in all. Some very good players have won trophies. Congratulations to Mr. Scott and the Chess Club. The Booster Club The West Booster Club, sponsored by Miss Frank, enjoyed another successful year. Helping to make this year a success were such fund-raising projects as the selling of candy canes at Christmas, and carnations for Valentines' Day. The club also sponsored another DancelSocial during Spirit Week, and sold popcorn at several of our home football and basket- ball games. As a part of America's Bicen- tennial Celebration, the Booster Club sold West Spirit of '76 T-shirts. With the profits from their many projects, club members enjoyed another great trip to Cedar Point at the end of the year.
