Social Studies The Social Studies department offers the stu- dents a varied selection of eleven courses. Three courses — Civics, United States history, and the most recent addition to the curriculum, Free Enterprise — are required for graduation. The eight electives are World History, Geogra- phy, Career Education, Native American Studies, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology and Eco- nomics. The social studies department is staffed by one head, Geraldine Moody, and is the second largest department in the school. The CLOSE-UP program which is sponsored by the department offers an opportunity for the West Jefferson students to visit Washington, D.C., for a closer look at the structure of our national government. 265

Resource Center Good News! After many hours of shifting, rear- ranging, and adding book shelves, the library has permanently settled on the second floor of the 400 ' s building. The big move was worthwhile, for we now have working area, with room to expand. Even more good news! The audio-visual department will soon be receiving some new equipment. Cassette player-recorders, projectors have been purchased and should be in use before the end of the school year. 264
