The Society of Distinguished American High School Students The prime purpose of the Society of Distinguished Amer- ican High School Students is to honor and reward America ' s top high school achievers. Dur- ing the last eleven years Vfe mil- lion students have been tapped into membership and listed in our Membership Registry. This program provides national rec- ognition for class leaders and also inspires younger students to set high academic goals. As with honor societies on the col- lege level, the prospect of membership in the Society encourages top performance on the secondary school level; a striving toward not merely a good record, but an excellent record. Through National Awards Program, the candidates selected are also eligible to compete for college scholar- ships and grants earmarked for them from sponsoring col- leges. Selecting Our Candidates Membership in the Society is designed as a significant and rewarding national high school honor. When making our selections, we first consider academic excellence along with leadership in extracurricular and civic activities.
