National Honor Society The National Honor Society of West Jefferson embraces high standards of scholarships, service, lead- ership, and character which are bound in a moral and ethical framework. Each year the N.H.S. sponsors school projects as well as community projects. The two school projects this year were: a.) sponsoring a Clean-up your Act Week . b.) decorating the teacher ' s lounge at Christmas. Our Community project took place at Easter when Peter Rabbit visited the children ' s ward at West Jefferson Hospital. Mrs. F. McCloy serves as sponsor to this superb organization. Sitting. Mu Alpha Theta Mu Alpha Theta is a math honor society to those students with a B average or above in all previous Math courses. To get into Mu Alpha Theta one must have completed at least the first nine weeks of Alge- bra II. In March we attend the state convention. Here we compete in various Math competitions. Mu Alpha Theta is a club which rounds the character of its members and encourages maximum achievement in Math. Physical Fitness The Buccaneer Marine Corps Youth Physical Fitness Team is in its fourth year of High School Compe- tition. Its purpose is to train youth and promote worthwhile activities that will assist the growth development of the participant ' s body as well as a marked improvement in their strength, stamina and endurance. Our aim is to further improve the general health of the individual with the use of jogging, free exer- cises, diet, and weight training. Competing over the years, West Jefferson ' s Team won two city championships (1975 and 1976) and were runner-up in the State of Louisiana Championship Meet at Tulane University, in 1 976. This year we are anticipating lots of good fortune for our boys as they will compete with 50 tough high schools in the state of Louisiana. The Physical Fitness Team is headed by Mr. Eugene J.
